The Mission, Values & Core of our Haiti Story

Picture

Zanmi Mission Project is committed to providing high quality Christian social services to the people in need in the areas of Tabarre and Croix Des Bouquet area by offering healing from the past through prayer, help for the present, and hope for the future.

Core Values:
Trust In God:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and he will make your paths straight.”  – Proverbs 3:5-6
Treat All Individuals With Dignity and Respect:
All people are created in God’s image and are therefore worthy of being treated with great dignity and respect.
"Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor." -- 1 Peter 2:17
Honor Our Donors:
Gratitude is best displayed in the way we honor donors and volunteers through the good and faithful stewardship of their time and gifts.
"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms." -- 1 Peter 4:10
Model Christian Character:
Christian character is best exemplified in the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. -- Gal. 5:22
Accept Personal Responsibility For Ourselves and Require It From Those We Serve:
Personal responsibility is being accountable for personal choices and the effect they have on others.
Display Integrity and Accountability in All Things:
Integrity is the mark of one’s character and is measured by honesty, commitment, and sincerity.
Strive for Excellence in Everything We Do:
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord…” – Colossians 3:23

Joy in Haiti, a 501(c)3 organization based in O'Fallon, Mo., is one of the organizations that sparked the flame.
The organization, established in 2009, began a heart-felt ministry in Haiti supporting a girls' orphanage and elementary school.  After five years serving in this capacity, Steve & Lori began a new venture which allows those with the heart to serve in this capacity to reach out in more areas of the community, while still collaborating with the Joy in Haiti organization, strengthening connections and relationships made over the years serving in Haiti.
Our team strives to be agents of creativity and advocacy for sustainable development, empowering those we serve to discover and express their God given purposes and potential. All Zanmi Projects are prayed over and should result in a “domino-type” affect within their community to allow others to be blessed as well.

We are so grateful to be on mission in Haiti and hope that you, too, are blessed by supporting this ministry.

Steve & Lori Mounts (above, left) founded Zanmi Mission Project in 2018 as a 501c3 in Missouri. Steve serves as President, Lori serves as treasurer. Both have traveled to Haiti each year (sometimes twice!) since 2013. Sadly, due to the unrest in Haiti, travel has been unsafe since 2019.

Fall 2021, our friends Gail and John Fedchak have graciously agreed to serve on the Zanmi Mission board!
As fellow church members and bible study partners, we are certain that the Fedchak's hearts are firmly planted in God's Word and both have committed to overseeing decision making on all levels for Zanmi.
We are grateful for their servant hearts and willingness to come alongside on this journey.

Although the current status of Haiti has our Mission on a temporary holding pattern, Zanmi continues to financially support the church and its community for various specific needs; all board members vote on each financial decision. We are hoping Haiti settles soon so that we can get back to the busy-ness of fundraising and all that it entails!

All members serving on the Zanmi board do so on a volunteer basis for one to two years unless they decide as individuals to remain for a longer term.

Together, we are serving our Lord by building their community's faith, education and general well-being. Our teams have complete trust in theirs while in country. The years spent serving with them have been a testimony of their loyalty to their congregation, community & country.

St. Louis Area Supporters

Scrolling above are captured moments over the years. We have been blessed with overwhelmingly supportive friends, family & generous hearts in the St. Louis area and beyond!
This support team is multi-talented, hard-working, and encouraging.
Since 2014, they have  jumped in when asked to contribute time, energy, and funding, also sharing the opportunity so others will know more about this Haitian mission we're all on together!

Hoping to get back to fundraising days in 2022...be in prayer for the country of Haiti.
Growing Hearts for Mission Work

Our lives have not always been centered on God, on His Word or the works being done in His name.  In 2009, all of that changed and we wouldn't have it any other way. When doors open, prayers are answered and obstacles overcome, it's hard to deny that God isn't involved in a process. When people are continually put in our path that support, encourage & pray for us, for this Haiti mission, we are overcome with the love that Jesus has
for us and we pray continually on how to share the message and the mission with others!

Priviledged To Serve

On a zigzagging road back to church in 2009,
it seemed that God immediately placed a weight on our hearts to serve. We volunteered and tried our hands at church and in new territory.
All of it was new territory.
In Fall of 2010, the church we now call our "church home" accepted our desire to serve and we jumped in wholeheartedly! Today, we are still so thankful to be serving in a growing and thriving church in south St. Louis county.
All that we do at home is considered training for the "mission field", as preparation for whatever God calls us to next!
 Obedient and Blessed

It was not our plan to do mission work in Haiti--we had our own hopes and ideas for Kenya.
Our plans went askew in 2013 when Steve said yes to traveling with George "the Shoeman" Hutchings and the water purification group called Strategic Water Team to Tabarre, Haiti.
Later that same year, Lori traveled with a group of ladies from Joy in Haiti (associated with SWT). It was during those trips that seeds were planted. The desire grew for us as a couple to DO more as Kingdom Workers, GO further outside our comfort zones and BE what God was calling us to be.
Roots were forming in our hearts of what would eventually lead us here, five years later, to the birth of the idea for Zanmi Mission Project.
Zanmi Mission Project is a St. Louis, Missouri registered 501(c)3. EIN: 83-2217072
Donations through Zanmi Mission Project may be tax deductible, however we advise consulting a tax adviser.
