Put Haitian Father in Business!

During the cold winter month of December 2017, a raffle was held on behalf of a father of three in Haiti. On 6-29-18 the video above was received.
This man is now earning a living, thanks to many generous hands and hearts!

Beautiful hand-made items were created and generously donated with the intention of raising funds to purchase and send a Power Washer to Haiti.
The Petit-Homme family are no strangers to the New Christian Church of Tabarre. The children attend the New Christian School of Tabarre, they all attend church, Sunday school and volunteers their time. Mr. Petit-Homme began humbly asking church elders for a Power Washer to start a car wash business to earn a living for his family, as he supports a wife and three young children.
Because the church was not in a position financially to handle such a request at the time, Steve and I hoped that through the efforts and support of friends and family of Zanmi that we might gather enough to make a go of this venture.
And today those efforts came to fruition!!!

THANK YOU--to the many people that stepped up to buy a raffle ticket for a simple fundraiser. Through God's mercy and grace, BECAUSE OF YOU, a capable man in Haiti is now working, is now earning a living. He will come home after a hard-day's work as a proud, Christian man giving his children an example of what a father does to care for his family.

UPDATE 9/2018:
We had the privilege to observe Mr. Petit-Homme hard at work under the hot Haitian sun, washing motos for what may be considered meager earnings. He considers it a blessing as he earns each dollar.

The Zanmi Mission Project team received clear explanation of a feasible business plan, which will pave the way for Mr. Petit-Homme to own a viable business and employing others! He was blessed to learn that his brother will allow him to concrete a small area on his lot which is on the main road in their town! He will be visible to hundreds of passersby and with the hope that positive word-of-mouth will generate lots of business!

We were welcomed to the family home and were glad to meet Mrs. Petit-Homme (who has recently returned home from an extended visit with family in the countryside) and their three small children. Because of their commitment to the NCCT, they have the blessing of this business endeavor from the elders committee of the church!

We are incredibly grateful to you for participating in the Zanmi Mission raffle last year, leading up to this point.
We hope that you'll continue to pray for this family, that you'll consider continued support through Zanmi Mission Project for the Petit-Homme family in hopes of seeing them flourish! Because of what was witnessed, Zanmi Mission Project has made a commitment to Mr. Petit-Homme, through the church elders, to continue our support of his business going forward. We are thankful and blessed for the opportunity to do so.

Reader Eyeglasses Clinic is Now an On-Going Project!

Thanks to a generously supportive reader eyeglass supplier in the US, Restoring Vision, the fourth Reader Eyeglass Clinic was held by our traveling team (Steve, Lori, Kim & Christina) to Haiti at the New Christian Church of Tabarre. The hundreds of eyeglass cases/pouches were lovingly hand-made and donated by a supporting team in the US; Stitches for Life at St. Cletus Church in St. Charles, Sandy Tarkington, Jan Walters and Liz Guillot. A note in Haitian Creole placed inside each one that reads "Thank you for coming to our clinic, these glasses are a blessing from God and provided to you through the New Christian Church of Tabarre".

In September 2018, 250 sets of eyes were served!! That's a lot of eyes now SEEING properly when reading. Even the local police force stopped in to get an eye check!

Having experience in hosting these clinics, knowing the need for translators while hosting, ZMP has entrusted one young woman, Phena M., to be trained to lead clinics, even while our team is not in country! Phena, along with Pastor Brisenault, chose three more trusted young adults in the church to assist on these one-day clinics. Our team spent the day fitting glasses, training, overseeing and finally releasing the duties to the new crew!

Funds will be sent monthly by Zanmi Mission Projects to the leader, Phena and her assistants, Cashli, Dupont and Jean Ronel, to hold clinics (when inventory is adequate). The hope is that they will host clinics for other churches once Pastor B. has made an initial contact.

What a blessing to not only supply people with the ability to see properly, but to also employ a few young adults with a small monthly income as they help their own community meet needs.
Haitians helping Haitians is the mission. We count this one as a success! Thank you, Phena, Cashlie, Dupont and Jean Ronel for your willingness to serve.

Community Water Hand Pump Repair

A day of community hand pump repair is always in order on a Zanmi trip! It's a hot, dirty job, but dedicated young men--Jean and Pitterson, of the Haitian based organization H-PI, Haiti Puits and Initiatives, with their own brothers alongside, make it an extremely fulfilling (but fun!) day.
Interaction with the community, taking part in a pump repair so vital that may have been out of service for months and then is able to be utilized again is nothing short of amazing! People count on this water pump as a daily resource. It is an honor to serve alongside Jean and Pitterson as they give their time and talents freely to their communities and beyond!
Every repair is different, no way to know until arrival. Different tools/parts are required in contrasting locations...One pump was unable to be fixed, we were told, because they "lost the well". Sadly, that well will need to be re-drilled, requiring a drilling rig which means a great deal more money.
We may be asked to repair a pump on a busy street with pedestrians walking and trucks whizzing by, with very limited space to work, other times it's in a quiet shady community near a church where choir practice can be heard in the background! It can be a long, hot, dirty day, but we give so much credit to the hands-on efforts of men like Jean and Pitterson engaged in meeting needs and sharing the blessing of Jesus as they work.
